BeLF (The Charity Partner)

The Birmingham e-Learning Foundation works with schools to ensure every child receives a learning device to support their education.

There is plenty of research to show that access to technology is a bonus when it comes to learning. Since 2001 the Birmingham e-Learning Foundation has worked with over 80 schools and their parents to provide over 40,000 learning devices to pupils so that they can use technology for learning both in school and at home.

Originally focused on Birmingham schools, BeLF now works across the country, bringing together suppliers, teachers and parents to join in making learning easier and more meaningful to pupils.

The central principle of the work BeLF does is inclusiveness. Every pupil in a class or a year group should receive a device, so that the level of access to learning is raised for everyone, not just those who can afford it. Unless we can get the firm agreement of a school to ensure that all pupils in the class or year group are included in the scheme we will not get involved.

The scheme works through parental donations. Parents are asked to provide a monthly donation to provide learning devices for every child in the class or year group. These contributions are voluntary. In general, parents are almost always very happy to promote the learning of their children in this way. They can see that access to programs that support mathematics, literacy, GCSE revision etc. can help their children make better progress. They want the best for their children.

BeLF partners with Albion to enable the charity to expand its reach to large school projects. Albion’s efficient affordable service operates within our charity guidelines and enables us to provide at least 100% of the parental contributions to their schools and projects, while allowing our focus to remain on our charitable activities within these schools and communities. As a charity we are grateful for your contributions, especially the Gift Aid which covers our central costs and allows us to help with specific challenges around funding, where required.
