Tim Cook visits London School
“Coding should be required in every school because it’s as important as any kind of second language.”
After meeting with Theresa May, Tim Cook visited the North London school, where he saw students learning with iPad and the GarageBand music app. He was also particularly encouraged to see the students using Swift playgrounds. Tim Cook said: “We think coding should be required in every school because it’s as important as any kind of second language.”

“Technology has moved on considerably. It gets kids a lot more engaged because they’re living in a digital world.”
In the words of Tim Cook: “Technology has moved on considerably. It gets kids a lot more engaged because they’re living in a digital world. We’re living in a digital world. This school has done an unbelievable job of integrating it.” At Albion, we believe for children to truly succeed in their later professional lives, they need to learn the those digital skills now. That is why we support schools across the country to embed and embrace iPad and related technology.
“Looking forward to the future these students will create.”
Of course, becoming an Apple Distinguished school and getting a visit from Tim Cook wasn’t something that just happened overnight for Woodberry Down and the other schools in the New Wave Federation. The project first began several years ago and we’ve had the great pleasure in supporting them along their journey with iPad ever since. The hard work and skill of all involved wasn’t lost on Tim Cook as he restated his belief that technology is a “compliment to traditional teaching and not a substitute.” If it wasn’t for the dedication of all the staff involved, this project couldn’t have been so successful.
We first started working with Woodberry Down and the other schools part of the New Wave Federation several years ago. They are an innovative group of state schools that have really embraced the use of digital technology across their curriculum. The end result? They are now the only Apple Distinguished Federation in the world. Each of the three schools within the federation has achieved Apple Distinguished School status. Watch our video case study that shows Shacklewell Primary school a couple of years into their journey with iPad.
