Landywood Primary School
Through the adoption of our Community iPad 1:1 scheme, Landywood Primary School have been able to provide each of their students with the best tools for their learning.
The impact on student confidence, creativity, oracy and literacy across the school has been astounding.
A vision for every child
At Landywood Primary School, the vision is clear: every child should have the opportunity to be the best they can possibly be. To achieve this, Albion and the school implemented a 1:1 Community iPad programme, ensuring that every pupil has access to a personal device.
Central to this success is Albion’s parental contribution platform, which enables families to play a key role in enabling access to technology, both in school and at home.
A community-funded approach to technology
With Albion’s Community iPad Scheme, the right technology becomes accessible to every student through parental contributions. This cost neutral solution allows schools to access every necessary aspect of a successful deployment, from strategic planning to technical support and teacher training.
Rather than limiting devices to the classroom, Landywood’s approach ensures continuity of learning beyond the school gates. Through the parental contribution scheme, pupils are able to use iPad at home, strengthening the connection between school and family life, and allowing them to access their learning resources from anywhere.
This approach has also helped build parental engagement within the school community. By inviting parents into school for demonstration lessons, Landywood has ensured families understand how embedded iPad use is within the curriculum. As a result, parents feel more connected to their children’s learning and more confident supporting it at home.
“At Landywood, our vision is simple: to help every child be the best they can possibly be. Our 1:1 iPad programme is a key part of that journey.” – Mr Clewer, Headteacher
Personalised and accessible learning
With an iPad in every child’s hands, learning at Landywood is highly personalised and accessible. Pupils can research, create, review, and refine their work independently, developing essential self-management skills which will be crucial as they progress through their academic careers.
Accessibility features play a crucial role. Tools such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and visual adjustments like colour filters ensure that all learners can fully engage with the curriculum. For some pupils, these tools remove barriers that previously limited participation, allowing them to complete tasks alongside their peers.
“With an iPad in every child’s hands, learning becomes personalised, purposeful, and accessible. Children can research, create, review, and improve their work — all independently.“ – Mrs Barton, Computing Lead
Pupil independence and creativity
The impact of Albion’s Community iPad scheme is evident across the school. The 1:1 iPad model has transformed how pupils express their understanding. Rather than relying solely on traditional written work, children can choose how they present their learning by unlocking previously inaccessible formats such as videos, podcasts, voice recordings, or interactive projects.
This freedom encourages creativity and ownership. Pupils take greater responsibility for their work, collaborating with peers, sharing ideas, and even supporting one another as digital leaders. The result is a more dynamic and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to take control of their progress.
“The ipad gives the children the freedom to express themselves and to push their creative thinking.” – Mrs Barton, Computing Lead
Strengthening oracy and communication
One of the most notable impacts of the programme has been on oracy. iPads provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to rehearse, record, and refine their spoken ideas.
By creating podcasts, voice notes, and presentations, children build confidence, fluency, and depth in their communication. Teachers have also observed a positive impact on writing outcomes, as pupils use these tools to plan, structure, and articulate their ideas before committing them to text.
“iPads allow us to develop oracy in meaningful ways… IIt builds confidence, fluency and depth. We have seen a real improvement in children’s written outcomes in the 5 years since we have implemented iPads, it’s changed the way pupils note take, rehearse and plan their writing.” – Mrs Burrows, Deputy Headteacher
Extending learning beyond the classroom
As an accredited Forest School, Landywood places strong emphasis on outdoor learning. The iPad programme complements this perfectly, enabling pupils to capture and extend their experiences in real time.
Whether documenting den-building, photographing plants for scientific study, or completing active maths tasks outdoors, pupils use their devices as dynamic learning tools. With the robust Wi-Fi infrastructure provided by Albion, learning is seamless across indoor and outdoor environments.
“Our children love hands-on learning, and iiPad enables us to capture these moments and allows the children to extend this learning beyond the forest.“ – Mrs Burrows, Deputy Headteacher
Investing in staff and sustainable innovation
A key factor in the programme’s success is staff expertise. All teachers at Landywood have completed Apple Teacher training, with many progressing towards Apple Learning Coach accreditation. This investment in professional development ensures that technology is used purposefully to enhance teaching and learning.
Teachers are confident in redefining learning experiences, creating opportunities that would not be possible without a 1:1 device model. By ensuring all teachers have the knowledge and confidence to teach with iPad, Landywood is creating an internal body of expertise, allowing its students to truly harness the power of technology in their curriculum.
“Our investment in CPD means that our staff team is confident enough to redefine learning experiences for children, giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have if we didn’t have iPad.” – Mr Clewer, Headteacher
Albion partnership and infrastructure
Albion has played a critical role in delivering and sustaining the programme. Beyond simply providing devices, we have supported Landywood with a complete ecosystem, including high-density Wi-Fi, classroom technology, device management, and safeguarding through web filtering.
From zero-touch deployment to ongoing support, including helpdesk services and device protection, Albion ensures that technology remains reliable and ready for learning at all times. This comprehensive approach allows the school to focus on teaching, knowing the infrastructure is secure and effective.
“We couldn’t have achieved all this without our trusted partner, Albion. They’ve supported every step of bringing our vision to life.” – Mr Clewer, Headteacher
Enabling every child to succeed
Landywood’s 1:1 Community iPad Scheme demonstrates how a community-supported approach to technology can transform teaching and learning. By combining strong leadership, engaged families, skilled staff, and Albion’s expertise, the school has created an environment where every child can thrive.
With the right tools in place, Landywood continues to ensure that every pupil is equipped to succeed – both now and in the future.
