How it works

Our iPad scheme will be funded using parental donations. Working with our partners: Albion (the Apple Solution Expert for Education) and BeLF (the educational charity) we’ll be able to support and fund the scheme. The College will make no profit from the parental donations.

We ask that parents/carers make a voluntary donation of £9.80 a month over 36 months. After the 36 months is up there is the option to return the device or to purchase for a fair market value.

In return your son/daughter will receive a new iPad 6th Generation plus keyboard case, wall charger, insurance against damage and theft, all software and applications needed and technical support during school hours.

Who owns the devices?

The devices are the property of the school for the next 36 months. At the end of the scheme parents have the option to purchase the device or we will return the device to the leasing company.

What happens if the device gets damaged or stolen?

The warranty and insurance is unique to this scheme and offers a number of key features, including accidental damage cover. We will manage all claims within the College. Please note that the insurance does not cover accidental loss; for example, if your son/daughter leaves their iPad on a park bench, this would not be covered under the terms of the insurance policy.

It is expected that your son/daughter will look after their device, ensuring that it is transported in a suitable school bag and not used whilst travelling to and from school. It is expected that the device will never be removed from its case. Claims for accidental damage will only be accepted by the company if the device is stored in the case provided. Claims for theft will require a police crime number.

What happens if I can’t make the regular donations?

No pupil will be excluded from the scheme because of their financial circumstances, so please come and talk to us so we can ensure your son/daughter is included. Cambourne Village College has been able to secure funding for Pupil Premium pupils which will cover all costs for the iPad, case and insurance. The pupils eligible will be notified through a separate letter. If you think your son/daughter may be eligible, please contact the school office. The College has also tried to ensure the scheme is as cheap as possible and will continue to look at other possible solutions to ensure the benefits of the scheme are open to all.

Why should I donate if others don’t?

We will only run this scheme if parents/carers want it and are prepared to donate. While a small number of families in difficult circumstances can be accommodated, unless there is widespread support for the scheme then the school will not be able to provide an iPad to your son/daughter.

What about parents/carers who don’t want to be part of the scheme?

We will invite parents/carers to a meeting to listen to their concerns. In order for this scheme to be viable we need the majority of Year 8 parents/carers to participate. While we would encourage all families to take part, it is your right to choose not to do so. Please be fully aware, however, that by opting out your son/daughter will not be provided with their own device to take home. We will try to ensure that your son/daughter has access to a device in the classroom to support their learning, but this may involve them sharing school-owned devices with other pupils who are not part of the scheme. If a significant number of Parents/Carers do not support the scheme then we will not go ahead with it at this time.

What if I have more than one child in this year group?

Understanding our fees

Albion’s goal is to enable transformational change through the use of Apple technology. Through our technology platform, we enable schools and charities to easily raise, manage and report on collected funds. To facilitate this we charge the charity a fee for donations made through our platform. This platform fee covers a range of operating costs and allows us to continue to provide the best and most innovative fundraising technology. It also enables us to maintain our security and data protection systems.

We pass 100% of collected funds on to the designated charity or school. The service fee we charge is covered by the Gift Aid that the charity claim.

We retrospectively levy the following service charges to the charity:

Service – Fee (%)
Platform Fee – 3%
Direct Debit Processing (Applied by processor) – 2%

This service fee is estimated to be less than £1 per donation.
