Gift Aid is a government scheme for UK charities to reclaim the tax you have paid and gain 25% more at no cost or hassle to you. Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate. Gift Aid is reclaimed by Cheltenham Bournside School from the tax you pay for the current tax year. This Gift Aid is very important as along with school funds, helps cover the cost of the scheme. Therefore please choose to Gift Aid option from the drop down box below.

I confirm that I am UK taxpayer and I understand that if I pay less income tax and/or capital gains tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations it is my responsibility to pay the difference. Find out more about Gift Aid and how the scheme works.

Key questions

Key Questions

How does the scheme work?

The school aims to provide all students with access to an iPad on a one-to-one basis. To enable this:

  • The school purchases a number of iPads on a two year lease, equal to the number of people of enrolled.
  • Parents make a monthly or one-off donation to the school.
  • The school uses these donations, the Gift-Aid claimed, and school funds to pay the lease and any other costs associated with the scheme.
  • Any shortfall will be made up using school reserves. It is therefore important that all parents consider carefully whether they are able to commit for the duration of the scheme before enrolling.

Why has the school chosen iPads?

Following a comparison of various devices, we decided on the iPad for various reasons:

  • Long battery life.
  • Lightweight and portable.
  • There is an extensive range of educational apps available.
  • The way in which the iPad operating system works, in conjunction with the secure App Store, means that students are protected from potentially harmful software.

Who owns the iPad?

The scheme lasts for two years, during which time, the school owns the iPad. Your final two monthly contributions are used to buy the iPad at its fair market value, in line with HMRC guidelines. After this point, ownership of the device is transferred to you.

What is the purpose of the Mobile Device Management System (MDM)?

Our MDM is used for several purposes. Specifically these are:

  • To automatically install all required apps.
  • To control what apps can be accessed during school hours and when on the school site.
  • To allow us to unlock a device in the event of a student forgetting their passcode.
  • To put the device into lost mode if necessary.
  • To help a student locate a lost iPad.

How will we ensure that students are not in danger when using social networking platforms?

The school’s internet connection is filtered to protect students from harmful and disruptive content. The MDM is also used to restrict access to social media apps.

What does the insurance policy cover?

The insurance policy covers theft or accidental damage of the device for the two year period. This is subject to the device having been kept in its protective case and the claim being submitted within 14 days of the incident.

iPads are typically repaired or replaced within two weeks. There is no excess to pay, but second or subsequent claims will be subject to a £20 fee to cover the school’s administrative costs.

Do I have to sign the Gift-Aid declaration?

It is vital that you do this is you are a UK tax payer. Without the Gift-Aid contributions the cost of administering the scheme has to come out of the donations and school fund.

What should I do if I can no longer afford to make the donations?

If you find you are no longer able to keep making your monthly donations, please contact the school as soon as possible. We will do what we can to ensure that your child still has access to an iPad. In exceptional circumstances, we do have access to limited funds to provide financial support.

What happens if I change my mind in a few month’s time?

As the school is acquiring a device for your child, changing your mind would lead to a financial loss for the school. Therefore, please only join the scheme if you are fully committed to continue for the full duration.

What happens if we don’t want to take part?

Participation in the scheme is not obligatory. The school has a limited number of iPads stored in each department that can be lent to students on a lesson by lesson basis. Please be aware that these cannot be taken home.

What if I already own an iPad?

If your child already has an iPad that they are able to bring to school each day, they are free to do so, but it would not be covered by our insurance policies. Its use in school would also be subject to it being joined to our MDM so that we have some control over what it can access.

iCare

iCare

iCare is a Warranty, Accidental Damage and Theft Service Contract offering an equipment repair and replacement service.

Accidental Damage and Repairs

Devices that are part of this scheme, come with a warranty and Accidental Damage and Theft cover for the full length of the scheme. The warranty ensures that if any defects or faults develop, the iPad can be returned to Apple for repair or replacement. Accidental Damage covers for instance, if an iPad is dropped in school or at home, and the screen is cracked as a result, the iPad can be returned and repaired. When accidents occur, students must report to the IT office, and staff will guide them through the process of making a claim.

Important
There are some details of the iCare cover that the scheme provides that students and parents should be aware of:

  • Claims must contain as much detail as possible, such as time of day, location, cause of damage – the claim form can be found on the school website within the School Life > Technology Enhanced Learning section.
  • Claims must be submitted within two weeks of the damage occurring.
  • The policy does not cover vandalism.
  • The cases supplied under the scheme are an important part of the cover. The service provider often requires confirmation that damaged iPads were in a suitable case at the time of the incident. For this reason, all students are expected to have a sturdy iPad case, which itself is in good condition. Students with damaged cases must seek advice from the IT Support team as soon as possible.
  • Devices must be signed out of iClouds accounts before being sent away for repair. Please ensure backups are taken.

Chargers and cables

Under the scheme, each student will be supplied with a charger and cable for their iPad. Students are expected to take these home and keep them in a safe place, and should not bring them to school.

The chargers and cables supplied are covered under a standard 30 day warranty, but they are not covered for damage or theft by iCare.

In all cases, students must be encouraged to report any damage to their device as soon as possible – the most common cause of insurance claims failing is a delay when reporting the issue.

Understanding our fees

Albion’s goal is to enable transformational change through the use of Apple technology. Through our technology platform, we enable schools and charities to easily raise, manage and report on collected funds. To facilitate this we charge the charity a fee for donations made through our platform. This platform fee covers a range of operating costs and allows us to continue to provide the best and most innovative fundraising technology. It also enables us to maintain our security and data protection systems.

We pass 100% of collected funds on to the designated charity or school. The service fee we charge is covered by the Gift Aid that the charity claim.

We retrospectively levy the following service charges to the charity:

Service – Fee (%)
Platform Fee – 3%
Direct Debit Processing (Applied by processor) – 2%

This service fee is estimated to be less than £1 per donation.
